Director Patient Care Services – Critical Care

We are just beginning a national search for a seasoned Director for Patient Care Services for Critical Care for a dynamic 250 bed community hospital part of a hospital system in Washington State.  This position is open due to internal promotion.
 
Critical Care Services is currently comprised of a 14 bed ICU and a 24 bed PCU.  Both units will be moving into a new patient care tower next spring.  There will be a total of 40 beds after move to new tower.  
 

  • This position currently has one Manager and 2 Clinical Supervisors and an Admin Assistant reporting to it.  
  • Total FTE’s: ICU 55 & PCU 74
  • Total budget: ICU $13 million & PCU $20 million
  • This position reports to the Administrator of Patient Care Services.   
  • New Patient Care Tower opening in the spring of 2011.  All private rooms.  All new equipment.
  • Potential for growth of services.  Large patient population.
  • Possibility that in the future the 17 bed Cardiac telemetry unit may come under this Director.   
  • Connected – Our entire system is connected through electronic medical records and computerized physician order entry shortly.
  • Investigating the possibility of an EICU (electronic ICU model).  
  • Involved in the VHA TICU (transformation of the ICU) project to decrease infections and improve outcomes in the ICU patient population.

Minimum Requirements:
· BSN and Master’s Degree required, preferably in hospital administration, public health, business administration or a clinical science
·  Six years experience in progressive management role
·  Ten years clinical experience
 
Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience in acuity adaptable beds, computerized charting system & clinical competency.
  • Seasoned leader who has experience meshing 2 units into one group.  
  • Experience with cross training, competency and building relationships.
  • Experience with working on ED throughput issues.
  • Union experience
  • LEAN experience
  • Strong Customer Service Commitment
